Combat Sports showed environmental support at the Green Sports Summit, presenting MLB Commissioner Bud Selig with the first ever Forest Stewardship Certified wooden baseball bat.

On September 6, Combat celebrated with the Green Sports Summit for an ‘Evening at the Ballpark’ benefiting the Green Sports Alliance; this took place right on Safeco Field in Seattle. The event praised MLB Commissioner Bud Selig’s support and leadership in greening Major League Baseball, as well as the success of the Green Sports Alliance.

In front of the entire crowd, Scott Jenkins, VP of Ballpark Operations for the Seattle Mariners and Safeco Field, and Chair of Green Sports Alliance Board of Directors presented Bud with the only FSC certified wooden baseball bat, manufactured in Ottawa, Canada by Combat Sports. The FSC certified bat was hard maple and specially engraved for the Summit. In addition, FSC, the Green Sports Alliance and Combat Sports had custom FSC-certified bats made for all Alliance Board Members.

Forest Steward Certified wood is widely regarded as the most environmentally friendly wood available. Destruction of the rainforests in one of the biggest factors in global warming; the FSC does not certify wood cut from natural forests.
