OKLAHOMA CITY — The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America’s 2010 ASA 2K Men’s Slow Pitch Series presented by Combat kicks off Saturday and Sunday with the Combat Capital City Classic at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. It is the first adult tournament of the season at the Stadium.
ASA Hall of Fame Stadium is also hosting the Oklahoma Special Olympics Regional Wednesday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. The 35-team event will bring together approximately 500 participants from throughout the state.
The Combat Capital City Classic, a qualifier for ASA National Championships, will bring an estimated 30 teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma to compete in two men’s divisions and the women’s open division. A similar event that is also a part of the ASA 2K Series is also being held this weekend in Las Vegas.
Now in its third year of existence, the ASA 2K Series consists of designated ASA tournaments that each award a $2,000 travel certificate to the first place team to travel to the ASA Men’s Class A National Championship in Oklahoma City. The first place team at each tournament will also receive a Combat prize pack that includes three bats, 15 batting shirts, shorts and hats.
Teams will also be awarded points based on their finish in each ASA 2K event. The team with the most points at end of Series will also win a Combat prize if they attend the ASA Men’s A National Championship, Sept. 30-Oct. 3. Other events in the Series are April 10-11 in Las Vegas; April 30-May 2 in Owatonna, Minn.; May 22-23 in Cincinnati; June 12-13 in Portland, Ore.; June 25-26 in San Diego; and June 25-27 in Bismarck, N.D.
“Combat Sports is truly excited about the opportunity to partner with ASA in this series,” said Combat Vice President Don Cooper. “We look forward to bringing our players and products to the ASA 2K events. We feel the 2K series will be a great place for us to launch our new Rusty Bumgardner and Scott Brown Derby 98 product line.”
